Top 5 Things Not To Do With Your Fireworks

The thought of lighting something on fire and watching it explode appeals to many people – which is why fireworks are so popular. They combine the fun of lighting things on fire with the excitement of blowing things up. They go together like milk and cookies.

If you are planning to buy some fireworks from and Indiana Fireworks store, such as Uncle Sam fireworks, you’ll find plenty of varieties. You can choose simple and elegant, or fiery and loud. They all have one thing in common, though: they need to be handled with care and respect. Here are the top 5 things not to do with your fireworks:

  1. Don’t light them inside: Unless you are planning on building a new home, don’t light fireworks inside – ever. Not even the hand-held sparklers. Any little spark can hit furniture, carpet and other items that will catch fire and have you running for cover.
  2. Tie them to other people: Sad as it may be, this needs to be said. Do not tie fireworks to other people. They will not fly through the air like superheroes; they will likely suffer from third-degree burns at best. This is never a good idea; no matter how many drinks you’ve had.
  3. Set them off in the dry grass: Remember that you are using fire to light these; lighting them in dry areas can cause a fire, and it will spread quickly. It’s always a good idea to keep a bucket of water or a hose handy wherever you shoot them off, not just in dry areas. Always make safety your first priority when using fireworks.
  4. Leave them unattended for small children to access: Adults can get seriously hurt by mishandling fireworks; think of how much more severe the injuries could be for a child. Burns to the eyes, face and other parts of their little bodies can make for a lifetime of pain and suffering. Always make sure fireworks are placed well away from little ones.
  5. Throw them into a bonfire: This may sound like a great idea after a few drinks around the campfire, but throwing in them into open flames can cause you to run for the hills pretty quickly. Not only can you get burned from the fireworks themselves, but the fire can spread to other areas, and if you’re too close up you may not be able to get out of the way in time.

Most fireworks have disclaimers and cautionary labels, but it never hurts to use a bit of common sense when using any kind of fireworks. If you have any questions about how to use them, you can call or email your Indiana Fireworks store for clarification and safety procedures.

The Indiana and Chicago Firework Super Store, Uncle Sam Fireworks, can give you tips and pointers on how to have a safe and exciting fireworks display. Always follow the directions never use any fireworks if it looks like it’s been tampered with. Lighting them by a lake or body of water is ideal, but if that’s not possible, have water, dirt and other fire-calming substances on hand.
